Kanakamma rejoins her family

24 Jan 2011

Children find their 82 year old mother Kanakamma at Evangelashram Koonammavu who went missing 2 years back.

Kanakamma who was suffering from mental health disorder left her home 2 years back. She was brought to Evangelashram by Binanipuram police who found her roaming in Adayar region. Kanakamma because of poor memory reported her name as Shyamala on arriving at the Evangelashram. Evangelashram volunteers were searching for her place of origin under the name Shyamala for the past 2 years without success. Following the good care, love and medical treatment lavished upon her over a period of two years her mental condition improved and she informed the ashram volunteers about her home and children at Elamakkara. Further to this the ashram volunteers contacted the children and they arrived at the ashram to take their mother after two long years of painful waiting. It was truly a touching moment witnessing  Kanakamma being handed over to her son Chelappan by Amal the president and director of Evangelashram Charitable Society
